  • Kathryn Cooke

    Kathryn is a healer, artist and writer, She has been a practicing paediatrician for 32 years. In 2010 she took a deep dive to become a critical thinker and art practitioner, receiving her BFA from the now Alberta University of the Arts in 2014. She went on to obtain her MFA in June 2022 from the University of Hartford, Connecticut. Kathryn believes that knowledge acquired through exploration and diversity of inquiry generates rich, wholistic epistemologies. She is passionate about providing a space where such deep work can be generated. Kathryn’s multimedia work includes 2D, textile, video, sound and poetry. Kathryn works to provide cultural responses to global conditions of this time and hopes the work can be healing and generative. Her work investigates relationships with the natural world. Through her research she hopes to deeply understand her immediate landscape and how the ecology of the psyche is entangled with those of the land and our more-than-human companions.

  • Nathan Turner

    Nathan Turner is a guitarist, singer-songwriter, producer, and music educator from Vancouver, BC. A frequent collaborator, Nathan holds ten cumulative releases and seven years of international touring within his four projects, Nathan Turner, Logan and Nathan, The Honey Tongues, and Red Haven. He is an !earshot Top 50 National charting producer and artist with his duo Logan and Nathan. In his various projects Turner has played on stages across Canada, the USA, and the UK, with notable performances at Vancouver Island Music Fest, Canmore Folk Fest, All Folk'd Up, and Cold Snap. He has a certificate in Audio Engineering and Production from Pacific Audio Visual Institute and a Music Diploma in jazz and contemporary guitar from Vancouver Community College. Upon graduating from PAVI Nathan became an engineer at Monarch Studios, gaining a list of notable credits as a recording engineer, mixing engineer, and musician. As an educator, Nathan currently teaches guitar and ensemble classes at Saint James Music Academy, Sarah McLachlan School of Music and Deep Cove Music.

  • Logan Thackray

    Logan Thackray is a multidisciplinary artist and community arts programmer who is dedicated to creating spaces of wonder and creativity. Logan graduated with a BA in Anthropology in 2018 from the University of British Columbia. They have worked in a number of communities, including northern Quebec - always through the generative lens of art making. Logan currently works as an arts programmer and public art manager for West Vancouver and hopes that through artistic practices, people find ways to navigate complex conversations and ideas. Logan works in service to guide/pull the community together in ways that have the potential to foster wonder, belonging and connection. They are currently most lit up by the wild and unexpected ways that humans and other living beings collide. Logan’s artistic practice allows them to work with ephemeral materials such as light, memory, movement, and form. Logan is grateful to be working with their loved ones and is so excited to meet and support all the beings who visit Slough Studios.

THE STUDIOS: WHERE WE WORK

Slough Studios is an interdisciplinary arts based research facility where ideas emerge from dedicated deep thinking and exploration in addition to sharing ideas with other arts researchers. All residents have access to The Studio space which offers a wood burning fireplace, a huge central island, and an extensive library paired with an outstanding coffee bar to create in comfort. Ample interior spaces, both upstairs and downstairs as well as extensive exterior patios offer stunning views of the Columbia River Wetlands.

WHERE WE LIVE:

Slough studios offers a flexible choice of accommodation based on your individual needs. Fluid currents of moving through the spaces between where we live, play and work, offers opportunity for exchange of nutritious thoughts and ideas. Artists hoping to bring their families including their furry companions, should contact Slough Studios to discuss options that could fit your needs.

THE A-FRAME

The A-Frame offers a Queen bed, desk, mini-fridge and microwave as well as a sheltered outdoor cooking and workspace. The ample deck space bordered by McIntyre Brook offers a lovely space to work or enjoy the beautiful mountain and wetland views. A back door opens out to a second small deck with views and access to the farm garden. Washroom facilities and shower are shared and located in the main cabin.

THE BUNKHOUSE

The Bunkhouse offers a lovely space to rest, research and relax. The bunkhouse hosts a Queen bed, fireplace, mini-fridge and opportunity to prepare simple meals, and that morning wake up coffee. The ample deck space provides shelter from sun and rain and opportunities for self contained food preparation with an outdoor kitchen. Washroom facilities and shower are shared and located in the main cabin.

THE MAIN CABIN

The Main Cabin houses Kathryn, Slough Studios’ owner and director, on the upper floor. The space also offers a cozy room for an artist on the main floor with a private ensuite bathroom. The cabin hosts shared living space which includes a second main floor bathroom, kitchen, living room with fireplace, and main floor decks. A fridge in the entrance room is offered for residents to refrigerate their personal food. All residents are welcomed in this space to merge and share meals, ideas and experiences.
